Sportsman 850 XP
I am shopping around for a new quad and the 2009-2012 sportsman 850's have my attention, they seem to be a reasonable price and would have the kick I want, also power steering. I want to hear from someone who has one though, do they have any common issues? what is important to pay attention to as far as maintenance? (things other than changing oil) and do you like it? how would it handle having some bigger tires put on it and some mildly aggressive mudding? Also what differences are there through the years of production of the sportsman 850s? I am kind of on the fence about one of them or a kawasaki brute force 750, or possibly a grizzly 700. how would it compare to one of these? I am coming from having a 07 arctic cat 700, its a great quad and I do like it but it lacks the punch of a twin cylinder. I've been on quads since ever but I've never had a polaris, they seem to have changed their game with their newer machines though.

I ride a 1000 but the 850 has plenty of power. Ride and suspension is night and day better then the old 800's and maintenance is still pretty straight forward- diffs, motor, tranny fluids, and keep it clean/greased. Still the most comfy ride out there. Best bet is to find a dealer, or dealers, close by that carry multiple brands and give them a try to see what best fits your needs. I mud a lot so won't throw my leg over anything else with the exception of the Can-Ams. Polaris and Can-Am own the market as far as I'm concerned on capabilities. I think Polaris is easier to maintain though IMO. The new Grizz is a nice machine as well-very capable as well. Good luck in your search!
