Any good synthetic oil from 0w40,5w40,5w50 is sufficient in most cases. No wet clutches to worry about and you really have a multitude of oils to choose from.Same thing on oil filters. A lot of oil filter brands that cross over from the oem filter.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...nm9RDEMWs89wGA

On consideration not mentioned often is the use of a larger or longer body filter instead of the stock size. There are advantages in both the amount of filtration media and lower internal restriction which could result in the bypass valve being called into play a bit less often.

The stock filter is about 2.5 inches long and the common numbers used have been listed in this thread already. This next group are about 3.25 inches long and have the same media (but more of it) and the same bypass valve specs as the shorter ones. I recommend you use the longer filter if you have clearance for it. Unfortunately, my machines (08-09 mid-size Sportsman 400 HO) have a frame rail running just outside the filter and there's not enough room to get the longer filter in. Your method may vary.

3.25" filter list:
Purolator Pure One PL14610
Mobil 1 M1-110
Bosch 3323
WalMart SuperTech ST7317
AC Delco PF-2057
Carquest 85356
Carquest Red B4620
Castrol 7317
Fram Double Guard DG7317
Fram PH7317

If you use a brand other than one of these, you should be able to cross reference one of these to a comparable one in your brand. (I'd use the Purolator Pure One PL14610 if it fit.)

EDIT: Of course, the larger filter will alter the overall oil capacity slightly.

Is there a bigger filter to use than the Amsoil filter I used this time?

This is what I am using for filter and fluids.

You're already running a good filter that's rated for 15,000 miles. Either it or Wix are two of the best rated ones out there. As far a larger filter,I don't know of any others than the cross reference list of filters and don't know if one would have any better filter media than what you have now. That's more important than size.

I try to run Amsoil in everything since sometime in the 90's.

I've had great longevity running it. Even with extended oil changes on my diesels with bypass filters

I run mostly Amsoil, Baldwin or Mobile 1 filters as Wix isn't as easy to get here.

I'll just be happy with what I'm running. But I always run as big a filter as I can get - as long as it meets the specs
