Stator on Sportsman 90
#1
OPT, what actually happens to these stators and pick-up coils? I had had some charging issues a while back, tested everything by the manual and the stator showed good at that time. Now I've found it has gone bad I guess. Went through a good bit of water, more than usual and everything is dead. It would run off the stator even if the battery was down but not now. On the 4 wire plug the manual shows to ohm out, I have continuity between black and ground, everything else is open. I didn't see any sign of water getting in there but it was several 100 degree days before I got to check it.

Dirt and water as you say short out most of them. Clean the face of the pick up coil and flywheel. If the machine runs, stator wires ohm out ok including the yellow/red and white that go to the regulator, then I'd suspect the regulator is faulty on the charging.Always load test batteries also to rule a bad one out. As cheap as stators are for these(20 bucks) you could take a chance on a new one.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stator-FITS-...wfD7IA&vxp=mtr Or just get both since the regulators 15 bucks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-Volt...1W25pd&vxp=mtr
