I made that so my tired old eyes would stand a chance of getting things right.

Just one more question diverod. where the black wire is, is there meant to be fuss between the two black wires?

No fuse between the black wires. One black wire comes from the cdi module, one from the ignition switch and one black wire from the reverse limiter module. On the reverse limiter you can pull the black wire and leave it unplugged. Most modules fail anyway and by doing this you can have full power in reverse without having to push the over ride button.

When i brought the quad, they had a wire going from black to black and thought it had to have a fuss and i thought that's the reason why it wouldn't start but now i know it's not the reason.

The black wire section is actually the kill circuit. The left control switch on/off,the ignition switch black wire along with the black wire from the cdi. The limiter module tied into these black wires and the machine will cut out/retard spark in reverse if you didn't push the over ride button. This was designed as a safety device.Limiter modules would fail, when this happened some machines would die when you placed them in reverse and some would even limit in forward range. That's why I mentioned to just pull the black limiter module wire and you would bypass the problems that they had. IF you have a spark problem you can pull the black wire from the cdi and see if you have spark then. This removes the cdi from the kill circuit and a way to see if either the ignition switch or left control switch could be the cause of a no spark condition.
