I have a 2004 sportsman 700 and trying to change the front inner cv boot. I have the axle out but cannot find the locking ring like there is on the back am I missing something or how do you get the axle out of the cv joint.

 

Unless I'm mistaken just whack the cv joint housing with a brass hammer and it should come off the shaft and the clips stays on the shaft.. Hope you had luck with this - did you end up having to replace the whole joint? ACV has some good parts if that's the case. Hope you figured it though. It's not the most graceful process, that's for sure.
