Thinking about a Trail Boss
#1
Can anyone give me their impressions of the Trail Boss? Any recent purchases give me an idea what a good price is? I'm really looking for an inexpensive 2 WD machine that is auto for my wife and kids. Thanks.

Jeff I have a new 2001 Trail Boss and it has been nothing but fun. I do trail riding mostly with mine. It is relatively inexpensive vs. other atvs with similiar features. It has been trouble free and easy to ride. I even climb some big hills that my buddy goes up with his Scambler 500. It has smooth easy to control power and with the 4 stroke it is quiet and won't foul plugs if your just putting around. Power is quick and smooth. Would be a perfect machine and no shifting is nice as well. After having it I would never shift again. It even goes through some medium mud as well.

the trail boss is nice i have one, but would not buy one again not enough power took it to silver lake sand dunes to heavy and not enough throtle to get up the real big hills pretty good suspension great on gas and very quiet

I had just bought a Trail Boss 325. I have a 2001 Banshee for me and a 1998 300ex. The wife didn't like the 300ex because of the shifting.
I just got her on the Trail Boss 325 and she was loving it and enjoying not having to worry about shifting gears. Now she can concentrate on riding. I am glad that I got it for her. She loves it. We just got it today. 3499.00 in California.

We just bought one about a month ago. I think it's a real good trail machine and it is great for my girlfriend and I to double up on and ride at night, smooth ride lots of room. She does have trouble steering it sometimes in tight places, it is a pretty good size machine. If I were you that would be my only concern because I think you said it would be for your kids also. Other than that I think it's an excellant quad for the money.

I have had my T Boss for six months and I have rode it pretty hard in all types of situations and all I can say is yeehaw! It is a great trail machine. I have climbed hills I didn't think were possible without a problem. I have been thru water up to the fenders without a sputter or slip of the belt. A lot of people say it is under-powered but I disagree. It has very smooth power without surging so the power is rather deceptive. My friend is 6'5" and around 350 pounds. His boss carries him up and down hills no problem. In fact, I was surprised to find when we are running wide open there is no difference in topend between our machines even though he has 130 pounds on me. As far as the wife and kids are concerned, I think the Boss is a better machine than the Trail Blazer. This is for 2 reasons: torque and ride. The Boss has very good lowend power so if they are not on the throttle quick enough on a hill or something it will still get them up it when the Blazer wouldn't. Once they break in the springs on the Boss get a lot softer than the Blazer (I speak from experience, my brother bought his Blazer the same time I got my Boss). Any other questions feel free to ask. Oh yeah, price doesn't vary much because they sell fast. Expect to pay $3500.

I've had my 325 trialboss since last July and it was the first quad I've ever owned and ridden. All of the quads around the $3,500 price range don't compare to the Trailboss. There is the Kawasaki 220 Bayou $3299, Honda Recon 250 $3499, Yamaha Beartracker $3499, And I think Suzuki makes one about that price. I paid $3,499 for my Tboss and it hasn't gave me a bit of trouble yet. I climb some serious hill, go through about any mud I can find, and water up to my knees. No belt slipage at all. For the money spent you can't beat it.
My wife went riding with me in the past but she said that she liked the clutchless shift better than the auto. She used to ride an old Honda 300 utility at her dads. Two weeks ago she went and bought a 2001 Kawasaki Bayou 220. Her second time out she rolled it and now has 2 broken ribs.(front brakes threw her off and it rolled over her, but not a scratch on the quad?). She had taken the Tboss over the same hill she wrecked on several times with no problems. Now she claims the TrailBoss as her own because of the easy to use brakes and it doesn't throw her around like the Bayou did. Don't get me wrong I like the little Kawasaki but I miss the size, comfort, and power of my Polaris.
If this is for your wife and kids I would recommend getting the Trailboss over the 2-stroke Trailblazer. Don't get me wrong the Tblazer is a good quad but not for kids and the wife.
2000 Polaris Trailboss
DG alloy bumper(for a 400 scrambler)
K&N jet kit with filter.
RCR air box modification
RCR green spring
Oneal handle bars with scott grips
removed the rack
removed rear mud flaps
and trimmed the front mud flaps
Ball hitch to move the boat & trailer
2001 Kawasaki 220 Bayou
Removed the racks
K&N power kit and Cobra exhaust on the way
Any one installed an exhaust on TrailBoss yet?
Let me know which has the best HP increase.

My turn, my turn, my turn!!!!
Hey, they are both GREAT machines. Either way, you'll get a lot of bang for your buck!!
If my a** wasn't so big, I would have probably purchased a Blazer. I'm 6'0 and 250+lbs, so with the wider seat and Boss's bigger frame I just found the Boss to be more comfortable for my big butt (this does make it a heavier quad than the Blazer). Also, I was kinda looking for a machine that I could work and play on. The TBoss takes a stab at being a sport and a util, a hybrid of sort.
I've only had my TBoss (my frst quad) for about two months, and I love it! Nice and easy to ride, I'm just waiting on it to fully get broken in. It is indeed great trail machine.
Be sure to really consider your family's riding style as you decide between the Boss and the Blazer. They both do great on trails, yet the Blazer is a bit sportier.
The kids I know with bikes and quads, always end up wanting their machines to go faster. So, you might think about available mods for the quad you buy. Although there are some, not a lot of mfg.'s produce mods for the Boss. On the other hand, the sky's the limit for the Blazer!
