And seriously, for the $ you spend on newer machines running the proper fluids is essential to protecting your investment. I rarely buy a used machine but would never even consider one that wasn't properly maintained.

Synthetic is better, but not a requirement.
I do run it in my street bikes. Been running dino oil in my cars, trucks and atvs for years and never had an issue.
Maintenance is the key.

In reality, because we don't have converters on our machines, you'd really want an oil with a high ZDDP (Zinc) value. I like Rotella T - it has a 1400ppm zinc rating and is reasonably priced. The zinc converts to a phosphate glass when under heat & pressure...added protection under tough conditions...I use it in my Vmax 1200 and nothing else...

Every 5k. Been doing that for a long time. Ranger had 325k on the motor when I sold it 9 years ago. Wife gets a new car every 4 years. Titan I have now has 110k on it, but I ride the bike 90% of the time to work, so it really cut down the miles from it.

Full synthetic is the only oil you should use.
