Predator 500 tricky electrical problem
#11
So my diesel mechanic brother came down and we got the Predator running! I told him everything I tried and checked and we went over the wiring diagram. He said it almost has to be in the connectors of the killswitch. We pulled that apart and sure enough, one of the connections was bent. We replaced all 3 connectors and it still didn't help!
We decided it had to be in the switch itself because we could get it to crank for just a second by wiggling the killswitch. We pulled the killswitch apart and the inside of the red killswitch button was melted and holding the connector from making connection. So I got out a utility knife and cleaned up the melted plastic and put it back together. We turned the key and the neutral light came on! It fired right up after that.
Thanks so much for the help and advice!! I appreciate it!

Hi im having trouble getting my quad started. I got it as a project now im almost done but i can not get it to start. I have power to my headlight and a light comes on in the kill switch but no power to the start button. There is no click in the starter or anything it will start by jumping yhe soleniod any ideas? Thanks

See if you have power to the small solenoid trigger wire when you push the start button. If this wire doesn't have voltage,it's either a short in the wire itself or the left control switch is faulty or the wiring and connectors leading to it.Sometime you can clean the connections and spray electrical contact cleaner in the switch to remove any dirt or corrosion buildup.

There is no power to that wire on the soleniod. But there is power coming out if the start button i hooked it up last night to the meter and got 12.25 volts. So i guess it has to be that connecter plug by the soleniod. Im going to get some cleaner aftet work and see what happens. Ill keep u posted and thanks for the help

Ok so i do have power running to thw triger wire when i press the start button and nothing.i sparyed all the wires out. I had a couple extra soleniods and still nothing. Know tgis might sound crazy but i still dont have the carb back on would tgis by any chance affect tring to get it to start. I dont want it to start but just see if it is going to

May sound crazy but have the battery load tested. If the battery has a weak cell you may not have enough current to trigger solenoid and the electric starter, but will crank over if you jump the solenoid posts.I've seen this happen before on weak batteries. Having the carb off won't have anything to do with cranking the engine over.

It could very well be that. I bought a cbeap tester and itz reading nevative. But we hooked it to my friends quad and got a negative reading. Im going now with vattery to part store ill keep u posted and thanks
