Is Xplorer the quad for me?
#1
Looking to purchase a new quad and want to know a few things about the xplorer. First weight, i am used to a lighter quad and am not that big myself, so on fast corners is it stable. And seat height, i've heard it is kind of top heavy, also is it tippy in corners. And any other major likes/dislikes that you have of this quad. I am looking at either this or a scrambler, i would need racks and extra mud fenders for the scram anyway so would i be better off to just get the xplorer and already have racks and good mud protection and low gear would be nice, just a little worried about handeling it on trails at speed.

The Scrambler handles like a sports quad while the Xplorer really handles like a utility quad. For a utility quad the handling is great...but not like that of a Scrambler. Speed is about the same but the Xplorer takes longer to get there.
These two quads are really worlds apart. Does your dealer allow test rides? It would be worth it.

xplor- i would probly buy used from an individual so i would get to ride it but no comparison
between the two. In reality i don't ride that agressivly any ways compared to some people here but it's not unusual for me to slide my current quad into turns doing 30 or so(it's an old timberwolf, my dad was bieng really cheap the day we bought it a few years ago i was going to get a practically new wolverine then but thats another story) and for my quad that can get kinda scary(not real wide and dosen't slide real well bieng locked in 4wd) So when i get a new quad i intend to hit them at decently higher speeds so now which one would you say knowing my basic riding style(i still get in a decent bit of mud and other stuff too though)?

In 2WD, my Xplorer slides rather nicely for a utility ATV. Granted, its quite heavy, but its got enough power to break the back end out without much of a problem.
In 4WD, its another bag of apples. 4-wheel drifts are pretty hard unless you've got a lot of speed and are on a pretty loose surface, because when all 4 tires have traction, you know it! But if you ARE on a loose surface, you'd be amazed how much fun you'll have just seeing what the handling difference is between 2WD and 4WD (at least, I know I do).
As far as stability in slides goes, I have never felt as though I was worried about losing control in a slide. You just have to get used to driving it, and learning the new body-language you have to use with it.
I suggest, like everyone else always does, to try it out before you buy it, and if you like the feel, or if you think you could learn to like the feel... go for it.

My Xplorer is the most spirited, most fun to buzz around on UTILITY quad I have ever been on, save for the Xpress I used to have (needed 4x4). Slides predictably, if not always effortlessly. Doesn't seem tippy to me. If you work your machine, go over slow, technical trails, or ride double a lot, you will learn to love low range.
However, for aggressive riding, it is no Scrambler. It is heavier, and has slightly less suspension. Power is very similar, it just has more weight to get moving.

Having ridden an xplorer, I know that it is quite similar to the SP, believe it or not. It doesn't have as good of pickup, but it will go fast, don't get me wrong. As for handling skills, to me, it feels pretty similar. It sildes out eaiser. You can't really throw your weight to one side to make it slide, but you give it enough gas into a turn and believe me, you'll spin all you want. Overall a great quad for trial riding, work around camp (low range comes in handy)and getting you too and from your favorite hunting spot. (even if there is lots of mud, which it happens to like very much) Can't say enough about it
