Default sportsman 450 ho codes

my Check engine light came on today. it started bogging when hitting the throttle in gear. i limped back to shore(i was on the lake). let it idle a bit and it was fine . drove another 6 miles and it happened again. the light goes on and off, when problem was . ATV was wet, but not submerged, maybe 4 inches of water. from what i read i have to get the codes when the check engine light is on. anyway i can get them now?

i dont want to go to dealer , and have him say, its fine. then get out in the woods and have an issue.

also, anybody have the EXACT instructions on how to get the diagnostic codes. my manual shows a display with a mode button on it. my mode button is my reverse override switch. the display used to say "CK ENG" but not anymore
thx

Clean all connections that may have possibly gotten wet and use some electrical grease. Water may have been shallow but it can splash up on sensitive electronics causing problems. As far as code and fault checking the service manuals go further than the owners manuals that tell you to take it to a dealer. Depending on what year model they can be a little expensive but can pay for themselves on the first trouble shooting or repair.

its is a 2017 sportsman 450 HO. its never had the first service done. but its only got about 38 hours on it. i hear the first service is expensive. how hard is it for me to change the oil, tranny and differential fluid. i heard as long as i keep receipts , i can save money. there is a 3 year Warranty on it, the previous owner bought. dealer said it can be transferred.
thx

Still under warranty? If so take it to the dealer and let him put it on Digital Wrench if he has to to find the problem. The owners manual should at least guide you on fluid changes and where to find the drain and fill plugs, fluid capacities, filters, plus other service related items. The service manual(if you want to do as much as you can yourself) is still the best thing to have. Owners manuals just cover the basics. That's all any manufacturer wants the average person to know so the dealers can get a chunk of your money.

I talked to dealer. he says if the check engine light is intermittent(like it was), he may not be able to read it with his computer, unless the light comes on when its at his shop.

I'll bring it in next week, there is a service advisory on it to install a heat shield so your ankle doesnt get hot.

UPDATE:

Dealer said it was the throttle cable causing the check engine light to go on. he adjusted it

Simplest of things can throw codes or check engine lights. Guess the etc switch in the throttle housing was triggering the light. Strange but glad that solved the problem.
