Default Advice on a mount

I'm new here. I have a 2017 450 HO Sportsman. I want to mount a Garmin 64S GPS on it. I'm looking at getting a generic, sturdy, and secure device to mount said unit. I'm asking for your recommendations please. Thanks.

RAM Mounts or nothing for me. Why get a generic mount when you can get a cradle made for your model of GPS?

Toss in a handlebar mount and you're good to go.

If you want something that holds more than one kind of device they also have the X-Grip, and the Universal Finger-Grip mount that's actually made for phones and radios. Those are both a lot less bulky that the generic mount of theirs I had 15-20 years ago.

I think Moose has a Ram mount for his Garmin too. I can't actually recall anyone recommending anything else, but my memory isn't great.

Yep, RAM mounts. It's worth the extra $10-$20 bucks to get a RAM mount. They have mounts molded for specific GPS units. I've had 3 different GPS units on different quads and none of the RAM mounts have failed me yet.

I've always used a handlebar mount on the right side. It's not as easy to find a spot on the left side of my handlebars as it is the right side. I swing the arm over to the side so the GPS is right next to the speedometer and just above the face of the pod. I don't want it sticking straight up where it's more likely to get snagged by a low branch. I have the power cord rolled up and tied together with enough length to reach over to the outlet on the other side of the pod. The cradle of my ram mount is wide open on the back where the cord plugs in. My ancient GPS uses 4 AA batteries and if I leave it on constantly they don't last long in the winter. In the summer if I turn it off during breaks the batteries last a lot longer and I don't use the power cord.

P.S. You can get replacement parts for different components without buying a whole new mounting system. I had to replace the handlebar mount after my ATV was stolen. Everything else was in the house with the GPS still in its cradle. All I had to buy for my new ATV was the part with the ball on top and a U-bolt through it.
