Default Overheating

Hi,

I have a 2005 Sportsman 500 that is overheating because the fan is not kicking on. I checked the fan blades and noticed they were not turning free because of some small pieces debris stuck between the radiator and fan blades. I took the fan assembly out of the ATV to clean it, and tried a bench test while I had the fan out. With a car battery on the bench, I put 12 volts to the blue wire, and grounded the black wire to the car battery. The fan motor will not turn on. Did I do the bench test correctly? I wanted to check with someone before ordering a new fan motor. Anything else I should troubleshoot to be sure the fan is bad? Thank you for you help.

Thank you

Sounds shot to me. I'm sure it tried to kick on, but burned itself out when it couldn't turn.

did you check the fuses to make sure it wasn't blown since you said the fan was stopped by something.
