i have been reading alot of stuff on here. this is one of the best web sites i have seen yet. its too bad i didn't discover this sooner. i have been gathering information about the scrambler 400. i can't wait to get one. its killing me not haveing a quad ourside to go fire up and go for a ride. i sold my LT250r last week. i have to get some money together before i can buy a scrambler. well, anyhow, i have read alot of stuff on the scramblers. nothing but good. the funny thing is that i never hear how they are in the snow, only mud. what, do all you people live down south or something? how does the scrambler go in the snow? has anyone ridden theirs in like deep snow, like a foot or so? i think i recall one of my friedns telling me how someone he knew had their scrambler on a lake on the ice and had it in 4 wheel and they said that in 4 wheel you can get it spinning so fast that you can barley hang on. they said it resmbles one of those tops you spin. hmmm, i wonder! anybody have any fun winter expiriences with the scrambler? i am going to be getting mine just in time for the winter season. even though i look forward to nice 65 degreee days to ride, the winter and snow is fun too as long as you stay warm.

 

Sure Have. I don't get too much snow where i live but i brought my scrambler to a snowmobile park in near Scranton, PA and they let me ride around all day for $20. The place was small and they only rented these little old snowmobiles that were goverened. I was ridding circles around these snowmobiles in snow up to a foot. Deeper snow has way too much resistance and is very stressful on the motor.

I also rode around when it snowed once in where i live in NJ. It wasn't deep at all but a lot of fun. The plowtrucks weren't out yet and it was night time. The cops could never catch me.

This is the reason i had to go with a 4x4 and the fact that Polaris makes the only two sport 4x4's in the industry the choice was simple.

I was impressed with mine in the snow. Hold on though patches on ice & traction again makes the handlebars hard to hold onto sometimes.
I agree with Chris, more than 1 foot of snow is tough. Plus it's a real pain to melt down & clean up.

I know this is a little off subject but I had to share. I'll never forget the first time I had my first scrambler doing a donut in AWD. I had gone riding with some friends near a river. We got to a large open area next to a creek. One of the guys grabbed a bucket from the creek & started throwing water all the place. He got the hard packed ground good & slick & then the donuts began. I sat back & watched until it was my turn. I didn't realize I had the AWD button pressed. I got out in the center, turned the wheels, nailed the gas, and away we went! Round and round, just like a top spinning! No one had ever seen anything like it! I thought I was going to puke! Too much fun!

well jerome, you weren't off the subject, actually if you read mine posting closely, i put that in there that i heard that they do that. one of my friends was telling me that. sounds like a blast. thats funny, must be that the front wheels just add to the spinning effect. hmmm, i wonder if it works in a 4x4 vehicle!! maybe if you had locking hubs, and a posi rear. not sure if it would work with one and one. maybe i'll have to try it with my cherokee this winter! naaa, thats what the quad is for, so i can minimize the abuse on my truck. well, the snow should be flying here soon. hopefully i'll have my scrambler by the time it does.

 

I went up hills that 2wd quads have trouble w/ in the summer & there was 1foot plus of snow on it & very rocky & rutted underneath & pretty steep & twisty. I did almost get stuck in the middle of one hill once, because I didnt know there was a deep hole/rut area which looked smooth since it was under 2 feet of snow because it drifted, well anyway I made it to the top but just barely, becuse this snaow drift really took away my momentum. I guess the frame was like a plow up the hiil. I was by myself so I turned around & went straight back home. It kind of scarred me a little. It was very, very cold out that day & I had visions of being stuck uner it or something like that. W/ stock tires the Scrambler runs GREAT in the snow. My friends all came over to ride mine since they all have 2wd quads so they have to wait until spring to ride. Winter is my favorite time to ride. Its very peaceful & scenic in the winter where I ride overlooking the Ohio river. I have since put on MX type tire 20" rear 21" front so There goes the ground clearance so I'll see this winter how she goes.

I agree with the other, in less than 1 foot of snow, it is a blast to ride. Don`t let off the trottle and you will be able to go anywhere. What I like the most is riding on hard packed snow with about 1/2 feet of powder. This bike really kick *** in winter

I ran mine and a 99 Xplorer 400 last year on the ice here in Ontario. You have to stud them to really feel the grip.

The traction is wild. Endless donuts, and you leave the others behind. Better 4 wheels chewing than 2!

Over a foot is challenging. You almost need to surf over it. Get going fast enough and sit way back on the machine. It is always nice to have the other one around as it makes getting unstuck a lot easier. (8 wheels chewing...)
