After I put on my performance stuff, wheelies are now a way of life. My good riding buddy has a '98 Xplorer 400 that has a hard time getting and front tires in the air.

It is not laking power, it has plenty of get-up-go but can't wheelie. He has a K&N filter, Boyesen Pro Reeds (carbon fiber) and a stock Scrambler primary spring.

This machine goes throught the mud, does farm work, and can beat a Grizzley 600 and Sportsman 500's at an ATV pull! In two years he has put on over 6000 miles. Not bad.

But he wants to be able to pull wheelies, mostly cuz they are fun to do. Will a different spring or a clutch kit make the difference? He has no plans of getting a performance exhaust...but we have thought about putting my stock Scrambler pipe/muffler on it just to see what happens. He also does not want to spend too much money.
Thanks.

adamnieman is actually asking the question for me. Right now I have a K&N, boysen pro reeds, and I put in the stock spring from his scrambler since he got an rcr kit. Putting a knee to the seat, I can get the wheels about a foot off the ground in High gear. Low gear results in nothing or grass in the undies. I'm probably putting out about 37hp...any suggestions??

Mine wheelied easly in low gear even in stock trim, but it wouldnt do it in high.
I now have a green clutch spring in it and it will pull the wheels even in high now, although i expect it is murder on the belt.

MUDDY4LIFE,

Good call on the spring. He called RCR and ordered it. Should be here next week sometime. Will post the hopefully good results.

Glad your PSI pipe turned out good in the end. Your Xplorer should be pretty damn fast now!
