Default Best 28" Tires for 2002 Sportsman 500

Its been a long while since I have been on here. I have the ITP 589 tires currently, used to mud allot, creek ride and trail ride. Anymore doing some trail riding and riding on the county roads. In your opinion what would be the best tire to buy for these trail / county road riding and I would like a heavier ply too boot ?

Do you realize that going big on the diameter and heavier on the tire will tax your engine and drive clutch (cvt). Some folks have special clutch kits made to change the gearing. If you go with a stock clutch, your gonna have problems.

yes, It has an aftermarket Clutch Kit in it and does really well with the 28" - ITP 589 MT tires. Just looking for something not so aggressive

what ever you go with, choose a radial tire. They are a world of difference from Biasply.

I just bought 28" tires for my Maverick Trail UTV. It was a challenge to find a 28" tire that was narrow enough to maintain a 50" width, and keep the stock 12" wheels. I ended up buying 28x9-12 ITP Mega Mayhem's. They are "ok" on hard pack trails, and exceptionally good on any sort of loose or soft terrain. They also made a 28x9-12 AMS Swamp Fox, which may have been a better tire overall, but the tread wasn't quite as aggressive as I wanted. You don't need to stay with a 9" wide tire on your Sportsman, so your selection is more open. I'm just mentioning two that I looked at. The Titan 589 has been discontinued. I tried to get that tire, and I could not find a dealer that had a full set in stock. I did not re-clutch my Maverick 1000, and it feels just fine with the larger 28" tires (changing from 26" tires), but it may be an exception.
