Default 2002 Sportsman 700 runs wrong!

Okay, I've done some things to repair the machine, but I am now convinced I'm chasing ghosts and making things worse, and need to get back to the original issue. This 4 wheeler is usually a work vehicle, my wife harrows the horse pasture, takes the manure wagons to the manure pile, I use it for riding out to deer hunt, or manage the deer hunting areas.

I've combed the internet, and found a lot of value, however, it's where some of my ghosts have originated as well.

First, the machine was mostly reliable, at times, it does get finicky when running slow for a period of time, replaced one starter, all four half shafts, bushing kits on all four corners. It is mainly stock but, it does have the improved ignition system, was something the neighbor had done when he owned it. I was using the machine to roll my whitetail food plots, a new hobby this year. While rolling the food plot, the machine started running difficult, sometimes rough, needing the accelerator to be worked to keep it running, and other times it would just stall. But, would start right up. Then it just stalled and then the bendix seemed to jam (new issue that moment). The fuel was running out of the drain line on the bottom of the Mikuni 1253438 carb (original). Well, I walked home (cause I lost my phone the same time) and returned, I could mechanically free the bendix, but the machine wouldn't start, we towed it home. (BTW, my wife walked right up and pointed to my phone on the ground - go figure) At home, I found gas in the air filter compartment, about 1/2" deep. (Puzzled).

I removed the carb and cleaned it up with carb cleaner, all the jets looked good, really wasn't all that dirty. changed the oil and filter, due to the scent of raw gas in the oil. Started it up, and it didn't run well, removing the air filter it ran better, turned it off. Figured the air filter was a likely culprit (although it just didn't resonate as the root cause). Ordered a new air filter, and gas filter. Installed the air filter and gas filter, and it ran great. (At this time, the bendix was behaving - however, later on it jammed again, and it, and the starter motor have been replaced). Parked it, and thought my troubles were behind me. Few days later, the scent of raw gas was noticeable from the 4 wheeler, the air box had gas in it again, and there was raw gas coming from the bottom of the carb. I turned off the gas valve.(

I figured the float was stuck allowing the gas to freely flow, so in order to just remove the carb as an issue, I ordered a knock off carb, and installed the new carb the other day. It starts, will run, idles okay, but when you rev it up, it bogs down, and will stall. If you work the throttle, you can get higher RPMs, but you can tell the engine is not running right, this occurs with the air filter on, and off. I took the carb apart, gas flows freely, things are clean, I'm stumped. I tried a few adjustments to the air mixture screw, but that didn't seem to help these symptoms.

So, I did some more digging on Mr. Google, and I've got a feeling I have not looked at the right thing. I wonder if the float on the original carb is bad, I will test that after lunch (set it in a bowl, weight it down, and pour gas to cover, wait......................) I wonder if the fuel pump was the issue from the start, but, in that area, I'm clueless. So here's my request for help.

It may be the intake boot, but, I really don't want to by $50.00 part after $50.00 part until I've spent enough to buy a keg of beer!

I'm looking for help. I've tried to make this request as correct as possible. Thanks in advance.

Whew, you have had your share of issues, not sure I would have your patience!! Afternarket carbs are generally a crap shoot, normally better of to do a thorough rebuild of orig carb with a good quality rebuild kit. New parts and proper setup instructions are included. Running slow pulling/dragging equipment can be very hard on the engine/drivetrain system. Has it ever overheated?
Does sound like a bad needle/seat or float not stopping fuel flow. I always shut fuel petcock when machine is setting.
