Default 2004 Polaris 500 Sportsman - What would you do?

Hey, I owned this for less than a year, and worked fine for a few months but blew a lower engine gasket. After taking it to a Polaris dealer, they want around 1500 to fix it. Is it worth it?
It also has some other issues including the front panel not working so I do not know the mileage, as well the panel not working also means 4x4 doesnt work I found out.
Front right brake works but left brake needs new line.

But the main thing is the previous owner did not take care of it, the oil was black and even sludgy when I did the oil change last year after getting it.
It makes me very nervous about dumping money when could have other engine issues later.

Thoughts?
If you think it is better as a parts ATV - What would I get to part out the ATV? The wheels are good condition. Maybe the winch would get some money. Or maybe it is better to just sell as is?
