Default Polaris Sportsman 500

I just bought a 2004 Polaris Scrambler 500. I need to change the oil and I've seen two different ways. Both show draining the oil tank only and say you dont need to drain the engine. The other way has you draining the tank and the engine with it says hold about 1/2 a quart. Also Polaris wants $8.99 a quart for their PS40 full Synthetic. Is there anything that is cheaper thats just as good?

It is suggested to change all of your oil,(drain tank and engine) As far as oil goes you could use Mobile-1 0w40 full synthetic. IMO. I'd say that moblie 1 makes the oil for polaris but you'd never get anyone to admit to it. I've had them both out on a sheet of cardboard and can't tell any difference in color, smell or feel between the fingers. I would find it hard to believe that polaris makes their own oil, would'nt you?
