Polaris sportsman 500 electrical question
#1
Hi new to atvs. Finally got a used 99 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4. It runs good haven't tried 4x4 yet. The problems that I am having so far is it needs brakes the foot pedal works ok but handle is dead and it has no lights no speedo activity.
I am going to start with the lights and do brakes next. I drive slow on these things anyway and it stops ok with pedal and throttle release. Lights would be excellent though as I may be on it after it gets dusk.
There are no lights. I mean zip. No neutral no reverse indicators no headlights top or bottom and no brake lights. Speedo doesn't move off ten mph on or off.
New as can be to atvs. Where do I start? It has a new battery and it cranks up fine with starter. Any advice is appreciated. Please be as specific as possible it took me 5 minutes to find the battery lol but I was thinking the front. Finally thought of Google and found it in plain sight in the back.
I appreciate any tips on working on it. I have decent wire chasing skill once I understand the basics of the layout and any time you pros can save me will be appreciated
