scrambler pvt belt
#1
has anyone ever "tore up" the pvt belt on their scrambler? i have a 500 scrambler and would love to use it for some misc. small jobs around the house (pull small utility trailer, light snow plowing, pulling the kids on their sleds...) but was told by the dealer that without the low gear i would "tear up the belt". i use to pull the kids on their sleds with my old 400 scrambler and even pulled the utility trailer a few times before i knew any better and never had a belt problem. none of the people i ride with have ever had a belt problem. i understand that the low gear is critical for serious hard work but for light work...? has anyone ever experienced any such problem or is this just more overkill like the multitude of safety stickers pasted all over the machine?

The belt WILL last longer for slow speed high load use. The difference will not be that great as long as you adhere to one rule. Do NOT hold the throttle open for more than a second or two without having the wheels spin. For example, if you are towing someone out, and hit the gas, and the wheels are not spinning, you are going to overheat the spot on the belt where the pulley is trying to grab. If the wheels are spinning, you are spreading the load over the entire length of the belt. Doing what I described above can put a flat spot on the belt, after which its life is pretty short.

Go out and buy a goodyear power streak belt and you should have no problems. I have a 2000 500 scrambler and tore up the belt because of bigger tires and a white spring.I put the power streak in a few months ago and no problems since.
Hope this helps you.
