I have a carburetor leak on my 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500. After looking at the carb, I found that the vent tube, which is attached to a nipple on the bottom of the float bowl, is missing. Does anyone know of a replacement, or the size of the tube neccessary to replace it. How long is the tube and how is it routed. Will replacing the tube stop my fuel leak, or do I need to dig into the carb?

 

Many bikes have the tube missing. It stops fuel dripping onto the hot engine/gearbox cases, personally I wouldn't bother about it. However the leak is caused by the float needle sticking and needs fixing. It may just be a bit of grit between needle and seat. Easy fix is to turn fuel tap off, run engine until it stalls from fuel starvation, turn tap on, and the rush of fuel past a wide open float needle may shift the dirt. If this doesn't work you need to remove and clean the needle and seat, checking the tiny plunger in the needle is springing out.
