Default 1999+ Airbox on 1998 Sportsman 500

Hey Folks,

So I've been searching and reading about replacing the airbox on a new to me 1998 Sportsman 500. The machine is a bit rough and currently doesn't have an airbox nor the pieces that go with it. It looks like the 96-98 box is pretty much trash with the platics cracking, mounts breaking etc and the preferred is the newer 99+. From what I've read, others have successfully done the conversion but I haven't seen any posts addressing the potential seat clearance issue. I did see one poster that tried the swap only to find that it didnt fit with enough clearance. What have others done in this situation? I'd rather not leave it off since I'm in a very dusty and often wet area, so the more protection I can have the better. Thanks!

Edit: I forgot to mention, it sounds like I can pickup a used 99+ airbox assembly locally for $50, so if all else fails I just might have to sink that cost and try to figure it out.
