2002 sportsman 500 ho melted wires
#1
So I purchased this unit and the key switch wouldnt work. No lights etc...I found a corroded circuit breaker and replaced with a 10 amp blade fuse because I didnt know what amp the circuit breaker was. So everything worked fine with the fuse installed. Rode the unit for a few days no problems but the key wouldnt turn the unit off sometimes so had to use the handle bar switch. Needed to replace suspension bushing so I backed the unit out. Turned it around and backef it back in, shut it off and in a few seconds smoke began rolling out of the handle bar switch. Disconnected battery so it stopped but it completly burned the casing off of the black wire from the key switch to the handle bar switch.and melted into the brown and red wire at the key switch. Not sure what failed, the key switch or the handle bar switch and why didnt a circuit breaker trip.or a fuse blow? Not sure if the wire heated up at the key switch and melted back to the handle bar switch or the other way around. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also what amp circuit breaker goes on the red and black wire frombthe handls bar switch?
