Default 02 sportsman 700 choke locks engine up while cranking?

02 700 has been doing it for yrs even destroyed a starter gear and flywheel saved the stator some how but anyways when it’s cold out I use the choke to get running, when cranking I pull the choke n engine almost stops while cranking, sometimes I hafta pull choke out twice to get running n I have to have perfect timing with throttle when starts! Once running it starts great runs great just when I use the choke when cold this happens! Any help or ideas would be great I’m open to any or all! Thanks! N hello all as I’m new to the group!!

Welcome. Not really sure why it would be doing that whereas the choke (enrichened circuit) job is to let more fuel in. when you pull the ****(choke), it pulls up the plunger allowing more fuel to run into the carb. It almost sounds like it would need a de-compression valve to allow it to have less compression when its cold to crank over easier.

Yah stendori u are correct, needs a compression release!! But not designed with one! I bought this brand new n it has always done this only good thing is it’s a steel starter gear against a steel flywheel! All I can do is cross my fingers its dosnt self destruct again it’s not cheap! Thanks for the reply!!!
