Hi everyone
I have a 2005 Polaris trailblazer I’d like to replace the solenoid because it isn’t starting. Anyway, the current solenoid has two wires coming off of it. I believe it’s OEM. The new solenoid has one wire which goes where??
Thank you!! Notice the two blue Connectors
Don't know Polaris at all, but simple solenoids for bikes usually have two binding posts for thick wires and two thin leads for the wires to start button and earth. I think that solenoid must earth through the case. Trouble is, bike wiring doesn't always directly earth one solenoid wire, some go through lock-outs, so it doesn't earth until you put it in neutral, or put the brake on. You could wire the negative lead to the solenoid case and, if that neg wire isn't permanently earthed, insulate the solenoid from earthing onto the bike frame. Another possibility is the grey lead from new solenoid is for an earthing start button so incompatible anyway. Personally I would take that solenoid back and fit the correct solenoid or, if you are going for economy, one of those cheapo Chinese ones for Hondas, the one for the 300 has bullet connectors on the thin leads.
the wire from the solenoid get its power from the starter button which will energize the solenoid and have power go from big wire to the other big wire to the starter. He is right, most likely the ground is through bolting solenoid to the frame so make sure it's a good metal to metal contact through the frame. did you test to see if the old solenoid was not working before buying a new one?
