i have a 1996 400 xplorer and i have 3000 miles on it and the only thing that ever stopped working was the spark plug at 2300 miles. my riding buddy has almost 5000 miles on his and he has only replaced 2 bearings in the front counter shaft.the ride is great, top speed on a level dirt road is 60 mph,and it is very quick accelerating. better buy this year because there will be no 2 stroke polaris xplorer quads in 2001.

That 2 stroker will fly. I used to have a riding partner with one. The only problems he had was the water pump seal went bad, but he replaced it himself. $20.00 i think.

I had one and sold it to my brother (he has a cabin which needs a machine like it).

It was a 99 400 Xplorer. Great machine. Ton's of power. Fast. Mud Machine.

It handles well, but not better than a scrambler. If you get it into some tough stuff, it doesn't like to go too fast. But at slower speeds it is a really smooth ride.

That 400 two stroke is pretty quiet, and it flies. It kept right up to the Scrambler 400 on smoother trails, but as I said before, the rough stuff makes the difference. It is a great towing and work machine, and I wouldn't get too worried about a 2 stroke work machine. This is it.

Overall, I wanted a sport machine and my brother wanted one to use at the cabin and he needed it to keep up to his 99 400 Scrambler.

Thanks, I brought it home a few days ago. That thing will really move. It is a lot faster than my 500, not as much torque but a lot quicker. We woke up to a nice snow this a.m. so i'm going to get off here and go do some doughnuts! Thanks for the advice I love it.
