Kagey,i'm planning on buying a second 4-wheeler very soon.I know you have a good deal of experiance with a variety of different atvs. My question to you (or anyone else with relevent information)is in your estimation would a 2000 explorer 400 be as tough and long lasting as my magnum 500?
Have you encountered or heard of any major problems with the late model 400s? Any wisdom you wish to part with would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

Joe Mag; The 400 is a Quad that I really like. If it had not been for the Insurance payoff I got when my 425 mag was stolen I likly would have purchased the 400. There are a lot of them around here most of them older 96 models. There have been no major problems on any of them. One of them in particular has had a hard life I have had to pump water out of the engine twice on rides when the owner submerged it and it didn't do any permanant damage. This particular owner has been esspecially hard on this machine. I don;t know how it has stood up to him but it has survived. I have replaced sprockets, chains and brakes for him but nothing else He even still has his original belt. His odometer has'nt worked in 2 years so I don't know how many miles he has on it now but it quit at around 3000. The 2 stroke 400 seems to be a really bulletproof engine in its stock form and it really puts out an impressive amount of power. If you like to spin the rear wheels and kick up dirt you will love this machine. I don't find that the concentric drive hurts performance on it in any way, it actually should improve its durability by eliminating the front chains (the front wheels are shaft driven)I think this machine is a really good buy in a 4x4 a lot of Quad for the money a snappy 2 stroke engine on top of that and a ride that to me seems a little better than the Magnum 500. If I were in your position and considering a second machine its a Quad I would most definatly consider. By the way I have a picture of that 400 submerged if you would like to see it I can E-mail it to you.
