shifting problems on SP500
#11
Don't take anything apart, just adjust the linkage. Ice, usge, wear, new machine, etc. A very slight adjustment will cure the problem, without worring about extreme measures, or something being wrong. There are those in these forums who constantly jump to the extreme wrong conclusion most of the time. Undertandably, they also have most problems, far more than the most of us and it shows up constantly. Save yourself some grief and don't join that group. The fix is usually a lot simpler than you think.

Thanks Jack, I'm not really sure I want too screw with the box and all. But I'm almost positive it ice in the box. You can't move the lever at all, in any direction. The only way it will move is if it's thawed out. I post the results when I find out. I'm probably going to take a look see tommrow.
thanks again guys

I agree with Jack if its not broke do not fix it. But I have seen several shifters with water in them and one was so corroded it had to be replaced because the operator did the same trick with the torch. Then summer came along and he forgot about it till it siezed up from corrosion. Make sure the boot is not cracked, besides the cover screws coming loose thats the only way water can get in the shifter.Charlie

Jeremy, though I will admit that most of Jacks advice is VERY sound,he's wrong this time. There's NO slight adjustment problem as Jack seems to think.I know,I had EXACTLY the same thing happen to my shifter. When it freezes outside, the water contained inside the shifter box freezes. When you heat the shifter up,things melt and you can shift again. My shifter screws had worked themselve loose, causing water to enter inside the shifter box.Sorry Jack, but on this one, your wrong.====BILL

Well, I took it apart today, and It had a lot of H2O in there. Also another one of those screws on the top of shifter's box was really loose, again. If you have a Sp500 check your bolts to see if there tight. Also my shifter box did'nt have any switches/sensors, in it.
Thanks again
