'99 vs. '00 Scrambler rear suspension
#2
Apparently all they did was relocate the rear shock mount on the swingarm. I would assume the '00 swingarm would fit on a '99 (or even some '98's with concentric drive), but you might have to buy the '00 shock as well. I just don't think that, that amount of $$ justifies 2" of more rear travel, if the front suspension isn't improved as well.
You may be better off with an aftermarket extended swingarm (+2" max), using the OEM shock, w/a different spring?

It's a different swing-arm, mount place, and shock. I wonder how much it helps. I rode with a '00 500, but not on one, in some whoops and I could go through the whoops just as fast, but then again it could have been the rider.
I would like to see a 400ex or Banshee type rear suspension setup on them. Of course I would like that on their setups on the front too. Why stop there, just put my motor, clutches, drive line (for 4wd) & tranny in a Banshee frame and I would be happy for life. Oh well, keep dreaming.

Thanks all for your responses. I'm test riding a '00 400 Scrambler tomorrow.
Looked at the rear setup pretty closely last nite and agree with Quad_man a more Honda or Yamaha like set-up would be better. Oh well, guess beggars can't be choosers if I want a 4x4 sport machine. I'll have to get one of those fancy amuminum or chromolly swing arms to replace the stock "lead" one. Just wish there were more 4x4 sport models to choose from.
FYI: Talking with a dealer, they mentioned Polaris may be putting a 500cc twin (2 stroke) in the scrambler in the not too soon future? Also, mentioned they have a guy in Kansas City that puts turbo kits on the 500 which they claim a 2X HP gain over stock. Not cheap though, $4,000!
