rear shock on scrambler...???
#1
my scrambler 400 is about a month old. i put some decnt miles on it already, i would have to say i have at least 50 hours on it already. when i first got it, the rear shock was stiff as a board. then after i rode it for a while it loosen up a bit, so i tightened up the spring about half way. it was bouncing all over the place. so i dropped it down to about 1/4 of the way. now it rides nice, the shock seems to be breaking it. when you push the rear down it compresses fine, but it has hardly any rebound. can anyone commment on this? do you think my shock could need a charge? maybe sat too long in the wharehouse, or was defective from the factory? is this how those shocks are, or do you think i should crank the spring back up alittle?

I've heard that the rear shock needs rebuilding frequently but i'm not sure about that frequently. The Ohlins shock is supposed to perform smoother and have less fade than the fox unit. I'm an going to replace the swing arm in January with a lighter and longer one. This would be a good oppotunity for me to replace the rear shock with the Ohlins unit.
The front always felt kind of stiff to me and I have lightened my bike up since i bought it. I am thinking about replacing the front springs with the next less stiff set. I hope the handling will not be affected. I would like to do something with the shocks first.
The new Sacks shocks up front for 2000 are supposed to be better than the 99 fox shocks. HPD no longer carries the adjustable front shock kit. If the start making the kit again i'm there.
