Hi Guys,

I ran into a problem while installing my new 42mm carb from Hot Seat. Everything was going perfect until I went to actually put the carb back on. Now please excuse the fact that I don't know the terminology, but there is a rubber mount that the carb slides into (on the side that is opposite of where the airbox goes. I tried putting my new carb in there like the old one was and it is just too big. I took the clamp completely off and still was not able to do it. Since I really wanted to get it in there so I could get it jetted properly before the weekend I came up with an idea. I took that rubber piece off (there were like 6 bolts, plus I the pipe where the oil injection comes in I guess). After I got it off of there I was able to get the carb into it (it took some fighting). Then I went and put all the bolts back in (which wasn't easy cause the carb was now in the way, but I managed). After that I tried to put the clamp back onto it, but it wasn't big enough to fit now. So that leads me to two questions.

First, do you think that I can just buy a bigger clamp and put it on there and not have to worry about any problems?

Second, do they make that rubber piece with a bigger diameter? I just can't see how anybody could get the carb on without taking out all of those bolts. It will be a pain if I have to do that when I have to rejet.

I would really appreciate if somebody could help me out on this one. Thanks.

-Josh

Piranha, the piece that you are talking about is called the insulator. You would have to buy one for a bigger machine but unfortunately you can't one for yours. I had the same problem when i went from a 30mm carb to a 39mm carb on my atc 250r. What you need to do is get a dremel and go around the inside lip where the carb goes into and hollow it out a little more. Make sure you get it even all the way around and don't leave any bumps. Any bumps will restrict air and gas getting into the cylinder. I just used a small round stone for my dremel and it just burned the rubber out. It worked really well and the carb fit in nicely. Just take your time and you will get it. Also get a larger hose clamp and put it on there really tight so it doesn't come off. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. You cleared things up for me. I will give it a shot. I bought a bigger clamp today (it set me back a hole 52 cents). Thanks again.
