Howdie,
Run "RedLine Watter Wetter" in the radiator for a while and see if that fan ever comes on. I've been told that the entire fan assemble weighs around 15lbs. There have also been a few people who have had fan blades break off and fly into the radiator (mainly the scramblers) and this is no cheap fix.
Removing the fan assembly is yet another possibility,

I agree with Quadbuster, but only to a point. If you do a lot of slow speed running, or ride in muddy conditions you'll need the fan to keep air flowing through the radiator.
Also, if you want to remove the fan, rewire the overheat light to come on when the fan would. Just take the wires to the fan and connect them to the high temperature light. When this comes on, you'll know it's time to shut it down and let it cool.

Hummm...let me think here waste of time, wiring headaches, disassembly problems, finding out that buying the 2x4 and lighting it up would have been a lot easier and lighter.
My theory is you want 4x4 you buy 4x4 you want 2x4 you buy 2x4, you don't buy 4x4 to turn into 2x4 or vise versa.

This has nothing to do with income situations, you can easily sell you 4x4 at a decent price, then you'll have enough money to buy a sport 400 or scrambler 400 2x4. I've been seeing ads in the paper for '98's and up with some mods starting at $3800 all the way down to $3000 bucks.
