Front bumper
#1
Here is another question raised by my little "run in" with the local flora...
When I hit the tree, I trashed the front bumper on the 99 400 Scrambler. I have looked into the DG front bumper, which I understand is alot sturdier and protects more area of the front. My question is this;
Is it better to have a front bumber like the stocker, that will crumple and protect the frame, or is it better to have the heavy-duty job, that might let more of the collision force make it's way to the frame, causing frame damage? Or would the bolts attaching the heavy-duty bumper shear before damaging the frame?
Whaddya think?

I don't remember what the scrambler has for a bumper. I put the sturdy tube bumper on both my 99 SP 500's. You post a very good question.
I had the unfortunate opportunity to test this bumper (I didn't, someone else trashed the ATV) The bumper took repeated rolls and a direct hit, falling from 20-30ft smack down on the left front tube bumper. The bumper is bent just a little, but the whole front frame of the ATV is also bent "just a little". I think if the bumper had crumpled, it would have saved the frame. I wonder if a lighter bumper would work better in saving the frame from such hard hits.
If the bumper you are looking at is anything like the SP tube bumper, you can bet it will transfer all the energy to the frame.
