Polaris 95 scrambler 4x4? keeper or POS??????????
#1
i found a really good deal on a 95 polaris scrambler 400 4x4,
but ive heard they have a lot of bugs, it has low milage, good condition mechanicly and cosmeticly, but i know polaris's, especily the older ones have had their share of probmlems,
i can probably get teh guy down to 2500 or lower, its modd'd lightly: bored .30 over, high compression wiseco piston and rings, K&N air filter, new grips, new battery, new realtor rear tires, new rear brake pads, rear cargo rack.
i know this guy takes real good care of his quads, because last year i went to check out a 97 4trx 300 4x4 he had, for 2700, IT WAS IN MINT CONDITION, not even dirty, cv boots good, what a deal!, but my family "forgot" that they where getting me a 4x4 for my birthday, bunch of BS if you ask me,
anyway,
is this thing going to fall apart on me? im not going to be beating on it, mostly moderate-hard trails, some not so deep water crossings, and fast fire roads, a little bit of jumping at a local man made track

If you're willing to do the maintainance on three chains then go for it. Check out Kelly Blue Book web site to get an accurate price on a used machine.

kukerdan,
Positive, the driveshaft he refered to was probably from the differential (I know it isn't really a differential, but that's what I call it) to the wheel. In 1998 the Scrambler series started the Concentric drive revolution. It wasn't until 1999 that all the other machines got it.

problems i know of in older scramblers:
piston... it has a new, better one ,
belt, already been replaced, it didnt break, he just replaced it,
and chains,
cant i put chain tensioners on them?
or buy better chains?
i know its hard to tension chains, but my family owns an auto shop, so i have all tools if i need them,
i know someone with a 97 scrambler for sale, he has tensionsers put on,
how do i do that?
any other problems that i could replace so i wont have the problem in the future?
