Yeah my 2001 camo sportsman smokes badly. It also grinds when shifting to and from reverse! The dealer said for me not to worry about that, yeah I will be worring about it when I have to pay for the repairs.Thats not all,it creeps forward when I am at idle, not on the throttle at all!Friggin 8000.00 machine should be better than that! Its only got 10 hrs on it.IT IS GOING BACK and traded in on a new Honda or Kawi.BYE BYE POLARIS never again will I sink my hard earned dollars in your comany or products.

do YOU THINK JUST GETING A BAD SPORTSMAN 500 IS BAD LUCK. Bull polaris sucks they need to make a reliable atv like Yamaha or Honda.

i own a 2000 trailboss 325, and i love it. i havent had any major problems with it... just general wear and tear, because i tend to beat on it.. heh heh heh. dont go baching polaris just because one model is a piece, though most of their models are pretty nice... i personaly dont like the SP's, theyre just too big and clunky...

ps. POLARIS IS GOOD

Unclematt,

my brother uses my 6 year old 425 magnum on the farm every day. he brings it to the dealer ONCE a year for an oil change and chain adjustment and that's it! Runs great every day.
(oh yeah, he will get that cheap plastic steering bushing replaced someday! LOL)

**POLARIS IS GREAT**

Sportsman500camo your idle is definately toooo high... all you gotta do is go to your carb, and there should be a litttle screw thing at the bottom... turn that the way you would to loosen it and presto! no more polaris badmouthing! pretty easy, huh?

haha. im a jerk

it sounds like you are shifting with it moving, you cant do that. we have a 1999 sp 500 that has givin us absoulutly no trouble, except the speedo just quit working. our 2000 has been very trouble free. the only reason i ride a 400ex is becuase the polarises are too dang heavy.

mudstud I try not to bash when I make a comment. Sometimes a bad one gets bought and I feel bad for that person. It is funny that when I go to other sites I read horror stories on all brands. I hope the Raptor is better for you. They are pretty cool machines but for me don't match my type of riding but it is a rippen machine.
