I've got a '96 Polaris Sportsman 400 that has a toasted transmission. The dealer says it looks like moisture got into the transmission becuase everything is rusting and that it would cost $1,300 in parts and labor to rebuild it (I could drop a new engine in my silverado for less than that!). Anyways, I'm looking to go the used transmission route. Does anyone know how I can locate a used, automatic transmission, preferrably in the New England area? Thanks for any help...this really sucks!

Sure,
Check the classified section of this website, I believe the other day that I saw someone with a Sportsman500 tranny for sale. It is unused and price is $750 I believe that there should be no difference in the trannys at all. I hope this helps!!!

If you can do the work yourself, then I would rebuild the tranny. The gears are probably fine. You probably just need bearings and a new chain (if chain driven).
