Mornin' Crazy, Your dealer is wrong. The black, as you could see from my pics, is available. I had to wait about two months for the front cab though. the prices and part numbers are
2632424-177 front cab, gen 3 black metallic,list$149.75, paid $105
5432553-177 cover front black metallic,list $49.78, paid $39.82
5434041-177 cab rear gen 3 black metallic,list $149.75, paid $130
These discounts are what I recieve for purchasing my quad from that dealer. You should be able to get the same. Work with your dealers, let them know if they take care of you, you can be their best form of advertizing. I even go as far as taking 5 mins. and posting his business cards around the hangars at work. Beware, the metallic looks cool in the sun, but it does show scratches easier than my previous yellow and red. I did stumble on the 3M Marine Vinyl Protectant at your local Walmart. Put it on, let it sit overnight, then wipe off the excess. Novus plastic polishes work good also. Just found some 3M 6" finesse-it plastic polish pads....need to give them a try. Right now, I have only added HPD decals on each side of the tank....something to think about, I might try the new X graphics from the new blue 400. You guys will be the first. Depends on if they are any different than the currently available 500 X graphics, nothing against them, as you can see from the pics, I just like to be different.

Just to throw my opinion in....
If I was going to be keeping my Polaris I think that I would put Silver plastic on it with Black trim (by trim I mean the front shroud, and seat). I think that would look pretty sweet.
The Black must look good too, but if anybody around you buys the Scrambler X in black then it won't look quite so original.
Either way it is whatever YOU like better.
modquad,
Do you have a website with your quad pics?

I've got some silver metalic plastic for my '97 Sport. I paid $280 I belive that included front fenders, nose w/o light and rear fenders. It came from Polaris and I was told that it was limited production. I've not seen silver plastic on a Sport. I was thinking about black but several people encouraged me not to buy it for it shows scratches real bad. I still think it would look good.
