why doesnt polaris make a sport quad

yeah silverlake is a great place. But i have my concerns about the sound testing there going to start performing. You get to see lotsa exteme bikes out there but i wonder how many would be able to pass the db test if its only at 94db. It'd suck to see alot of those tricked bikes get turned away b/c there to loud.

Why doesn't Polaris make a sport quad? Good question! Here from the home office in Roseau, Minn. are the top ten reasons Polaris doesn't build a sport quad :
#10. There isn't much of a market for them (in their opinion, not mine)
#9. We already have sport machines in the Scrambler series (yeah, right)
#8. They are afraid they'll get sued if some moron puts his 5 year old on it and the kid wrecks
#7. They just don't know how, or for that matter even what a sport machine should be (see answer#9)
#6. They are too damn cheap to go out and buy the current sport machines on the market to see how badly they are getting beaten in that market.
#5. They'd rather put BNGs (bold new graphics) on the machines they have and call them new machines
#4. They can't afford a team to put together one after money losing fiascos like the Sportsman 335 and the Diesel
#3. They can't figure out what the deal is with "split braking"
#2. They would rather sell big, slow, heavy utility quads
And the number one reason Polaris doesn't sell sport quads is:
Sport quads cost money to make, rumors are free!

My dealership told me he was told buy a factory rep that quote:
"They are holding off releasing the new 500cc, dual a-arm,430ish lbs, manual clutch quad till they work the bugs out of the 700 model quad set up the same way. That way people will have a choice between the two."
He told me this back in the middle of July.
Other rumors he told me was 2003-04 for Polaris. (because of emissions crap)
325cc 4-stroke motor replaces the 250cc 2-stroke motor in Trailblazer
500cc 4-stroke engine replaces the 400cc 2-stroke engine line all the way
Even the 50cc and 90cc will be replaced with 4-stroke engines

Amen . . . Michael!
You have the best answer (Excuses) I have heard so far.
I think they actually don't have a clue anymore. The only things they are looking at are their sales numbers and market share. Since atv sales have finally slid by 6% they just might look at it. Maybe the overall market is down right now. The real number is market share. I'm not sure how it affected them yet. If it has not happened yet it will, soon. Once their market share goes down, they will then build. Or they might blame it on the economy again.
It's exactly what happend in their sled div. They were making some of the worst slugs on the snow a few years ago. Even though they had their so-called performance sleds, the rest of the bunch were true slugs, some were not worth modifying. Then they got stuck with thousands of new leftovers that they had to give away real, real cheap. I looked at buying a couple of them that year, and Jeff Crolli told me not to bother since the value they depreciate is not even worth it. The bluebook value of these sleds was worth less on the market that day, then what they were asking, even tough they were new. Talk about a sinking market.
No one bought their sleds anymore and they lost market share. That is what will eventually happen with atv's and then they will panic.
ATV buyers are not sophisticated enough like sled and bike buyers to be aware of what is happening in the marketplace. There are too many first time buyers that just don't know. Also many younger buyers who buy on price alone. When these buyers dry up, and they will, then Polaris might pay attention. Remember when this forum used to have the most posts. That has certainly changed.
I just don't have much faith in the old north star leading anything anymore, for a long, long time.
It must be that they have caught the "Richard Petty Syndrom" by association.

Jack,
I'm with you. Once the sales from the Sportsman 700 die down, they will have to come out with something new. If I'm correct, they won't sell many Sportsman 700 after the magazines get a hold of one for a test and shootout. The only person who this quad MIGHT appeal to is the guy who is brand loyal and must have the biggest and best of everything.
Look for the magazines to give a scathing report on the Sportsman 700. Also look for it to finish in last place out of the three "big bore utes".
