500SCR, Check your ETC. Mine was doing the same thing and all it needed was a throttle cable adjustment. Take the cover off of the thumb throttle housing and check it. As far as the compression check goes. It seems like I read something in my Clymer manual saying that you can't do an acurate compression check on these engines due to the compression release when you start it????? I will look later tonight and get back with you.

Thanks for all the help guys I finally figured it out. The diaphragm had a hole in it and the piston valve wasn't opening all the way causing a rich condition at WOT. I completely rebuilt the carb and now it runs like a bat out of he// and no plug fouling. Once again I appreciate all the suggestions.
