Was out yesterday bombing around aokay. Stopped for lunch then took off again. About 5min into the ride the engine coughs & dies with a backfire, "KAPOW". Restarted it and again the same thing so I change sparkplug and try again, starts, cough & backfire. So I play with the idle screw and that doesn't do a thing so fine "I'll limp back to the truck so I fiqured. Well I put the seat back on its place and hit the starter button for the forth time & she started right up purring like kitten. I ended up heading back to the truck & the quad was running fine, just like it never happened. Sooooo, anybody have a clue as to why my 2stroke had a stroke?

Sounds like you either had a bit of H2o go through or a temporary
blockage in a carb circut.

Well whatever happened is now gone. I was out riding again to-day and everything was running smoothly.

You'll get a backfire sometimes when running lean. Whatever you do, don't let it run lean.
Check your plug and make sure it looks normal.

If your machine has the ETC, be sure the throttle cable is adjusted properly, and working smoothly. That can cause poor running, backfiring, and plug fouling.
It isn't too likely that is the problem, but it only takes 30 seconds to fix, and costs nothing, and just MIGHT fix it from happening again.

I checked my plug as soon as I got back to my truck & the plug looked just fine, tan in color. I'll drain my carb bowl to see if there is water or dirt in it soon. Before the stroke, I went through a dry ditch which is kind of tricky to cross, then a couple mins later cough cough kapow. Maybe just from going through that rough spot something went through the carb. Anyway it's running fine now, traveled about 40-50 miles to-day without a stroke.

If you have water in the gas, crossing a big ditch or the like can slosh it around enough that the water in the bottom of the tank gets into the fuel line. Best way is to drain off the gas on the bottom of the tank, if bad gas is what you suspect. Take the fuel line off the carb, aim it into a can or something (have the fuel off before you dis-connect the line) and move the valve to reserve. This should drain off anything in the bottom of the tank.
To find out if the gas was bad, put it in your lawn mower or something (not your car). If it runs crappy, just tip the mower over enough to let the gas drain out (hard to do with a car).
Good luck.

Had the exact same thing happen on my 98 sport. My buddy offered to fill up the gas tank and didn't tell me he over filled it. Got to looking at it and the breather tube has a low spot in it the way they ran it from the factory and it was full of gas. If you haven't already I would throw away the present gas cap and get a vented cap. I have done that on all my bikes

Strange that you should mention this Numnek as I did top up my tank before takeoff. I don't want to get rid of my gas cap just yet as it's my gauge also which I find handy. This is the first time I had something like this happen so since it seems to be minor I'll just leave it for now.
