My buddy had to. If I remember correctly, a new one is right around the $300 range. There is a company that advertises in the ATV mags that sells starters for Polaris quads. I think their name is Goki. I believe you can buy a rebuild kit for it.

What is your starter doing? Is it just clicking? If that's the case you just need to buy a new brush kit. A brush kit runs about 40 bucks and are very simple to install. I have replaced my brushes twice now. It is an easy job.

Well, the starter has not worked for over a year ,(when the button was pushed it just clicks)there is good power getting to the starter and all electrics tested and work fine,The owner of the quad never drained the mud or water out of the starter or the recoil cover in like 2 years,so it has seized up the motor solid and the bushings need to be replaced,I also need to clean out under the flywheel (ignition)and get rid of all the old dried mud.
I have the engine completely out right now and on the bench to have the rings replaced .The starter is off and is full of crud nothing moves it is all rusted and covered in mud.It need to be re-built or replaced as cheap as possible.
I have searched the net for a repair kit or the price of a replacement starter but came up empty !
any help would be apreciated.

If it will not spin then it is probably just the bearing that goes on the shaft of the armature. I had my bearing freeze up and it would not turn anymore and burnt the brushes up quickly. I removed the bearing and soaked the whole starter in electic parts cleaner overnight. I matched the bearing up at westlake hardware and it costs about 3 bucks. I hit everything with a wire brush and reassembled it and it works fine. My starter was rusted and all dirty and it works fine. You should try that first before spending 220 bucks on a new starter. If you need a starter try dennis kirk. They carry starters for all kinds of machines. Good luck.
