In 12,000 miles of ownership on belt driven Polaris models since 1995 I can truthfully say that our family has never smoked or thrown a belt.
Who ever told you that you need a clutch kit to keep from smoking belts is not a credible source. IMHO do yourself a favor and find another sales representative.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I replaced my belt for the fist time on my Xplorer at over 4000 miles this spring. It wouldn't have needed it if a friend of my brother hadn't buried it in a sticky snow drift and decided to try to claw his way out in hi range instead of low.
My brother's Xpress 400 has over 5000 miles on it's belt, probably pushing 6000 by now. It is starting to fray already, though.
