I can get a really good dels on a 02 SP500HO, like $6000 with a winch. But, two dealers I have been to have steered me away from the bike, saying I need to get a 'clutch kit' right out of the box, and there is some reliability issues. I like the price and all, but I do not want to have problems. Problems = less time to ride.
Any takers???

I would buy a 500 HO again. Dealers are selling 500 HO's for 5,800 right now here. Your dealer is full of crap though on the clutch kit.

Another note for you. If you wait a little longer the new 2002 HO's will be coming with the new Tuff Grip tires stock. From the sound of your dealer I would find a new one. These guys do not know what they are talking about. Why are they bad mouthing their own product? Find a new dealer.

I am jealous! My local dealer wants about $6600 for a 2002 500 HO without a winch (New Hampshire), don't seem interested in making any "deals" and I've been waiting 3 weeks and they haven't been able to get a 500 HO. Not only that, but they are trying to sell the 2001 models for the same price as the 2002's which doesn't make much sense to me. I have seen other posts of much better prices in the Midwest.

By the way, what is the deal with winch deals. Does anyone expect there would be one this fall. I've waited so long for this thing to come in, I'd let it sit at the dealer a little longer if there might be a winch deal this year. The dealer says it isn't likely.

BTW, I have done business with my local dealer, a farm implement dealer, for many years and they are very good with service so I think I should stick with them, but their high price is frustrating. Another local area dealer has even higher prices (list).

Odin,

I swear I've seen new HO's for 5495 in the local paper, Star Tribune. Are you sure you can't do better than 5800 locally? Perhaps I'm refering to new 2001 machines, not sure.

Dealers really need to dump their 2001's asap.

I'm sure Heinon & Mason has a fire sale going on now. They always the cheapest price.

There is a dealer just north of me (about 20mins) he is asking 5595 for the 01's and 5650 for the 02's. From what I have heard they have made a few changes on the 02's. I don't know what they are, but if you ask dazed he would be able to tell you what the changs are. All the dealerships that I talked to said that there where no changes, but these where dealerships that wanted to get rid of there 01's. Good luck with what ever you buy
Thanks
Tom
P.S. Thanks for the E-mails Odin and Thor. Keep on sending them!!!!!

Minor changes from 2001 to 2002

1. Color of the green
2. Graphics
3. Starts with the key (like a car) instead od pushing a start button.
4. Black wheels are no longer on the green Sportmans.

My bother and I have 2001s (green) and my dad just purchased a 2002.

Have any of you gone thru belts? I have heard the bike needs a clutch kit to avoid smoking the belt, or do these bikes that need them have problems?
