Which 425 is he considering. Is it the old Magnum 425? The Expedition 425? What about the SP400, it also uses the 425 engine?

Engine wise, the 425 is a very reliable and tough engine. It has plenty of torque to do just about anything. It has been one of Polaris' top performers.

I just bought the new SP400 yesterday, and i am very pleased with it. I put a warn winch on it, front and rear 3.5 inch rack extenders, camo fender kit, and a plow on it. Today i was doing some heavy duty work with it, pulling some old fallin trees out of some deep ditches, and let me tell you, that thing pulled them out in ease, it wasnt much pressure, cause im still wearing it in, but because of all the weight the sportsman brings with it, it has a lot of traction on the ground, so if i were your friend i would get one, they are great. A 425 engine, is plenty big, i wouldnt go much higher because your wasting money on something that will do the same, dealers are starting to make atv's so big stock, that you could spin out on assfault in 4 wheel drive for 30 seconds, like that new sportsman 700, thats a lot of power packed in pretty small body.

Pierce is right, some engines are just plain bigger than they have to be. I have a 425 engine as well (expedition) and its plenty big, I've never seen a bigger quad do something that mine couldnt, except go faster. If your doing something out of the ordinary with your quad that calls for more engine, than you should probably use something built for the job, like a tractor, or bobcat mayby. If your just farting around trails, climbing hills, or mudding, the 425 is all you ever need. I'm sure there are those who disagree, but to each, his own.

I have had a 425 magnumm for years and it will do anything the bigger ones will.I do HATE the chain adjustments but other than that it is a great trail machine.I would reather use my 400 sportsman for hard work or mudding. But the neww SP400 iss all the power and suspinsion you would need.
