i have noticed in some of the pics ive seen on the web that some of you guys has removed your shifter can you just run a piece of alum. out the side from the tranny and shift it like that? or would you not be able to shift it then?

I had my shifter linkage off once because I broke one of the rods while trying to change the one end. If you added a short piece of metal off the end of the shift lever coming out of the tranny, this should give you enough leverage to shift. I used a small pair of vise-grips. I hooked my linkage back up once I replaced the broken piece. I only really hooked it back up because I have low range also. If I didn't have low range, I probably wouldn't have hooked it back up. I would have had to come up with something a little more permanent than a pair of vice-grips.
