Winch w/ OR w/o Toggle Switch??
#1
Just wondering if I should install the optional toggle switch that came w/ the warn 2000 winch or leave it off.
My last quad I left it off and had no problems, but I heard it's better to put the switch in so there's not always power to it when the key is on.
In the middle of changing the recall solenoid, so I thought I'd consider putting the switch in at this time.
WHAT DO YOU THINK??

I wondered about this too. After giving it some thought, I installed mine without the switch. the solenoid should be rated for continous duty. by keepng it aways energized, its less likely to get damaged by water or moisture since it will aways be warm enough to cook it off. Though I don't have much experience with winch controls, I do with electronic systems exposed to the elements. Most failures occur after equipment sits exposed unenergized. And usually, you won't know it failed till you need it most.
Just my two cests.
Good luck

Just about everyone I know installs the winch without the solonoid. Although there is live power to the winch even when the quad is turned off. The switch is more than able to handle this live wiring. It also seems to make the winch operate better without the complicated wire job. The option is yours.

Thanks for everyones 2 Cents. I think I'm gonna put the switch on.
RacerX your idea seems good but I think I'll install it and I always have the option of always leaving the switch on to keep it warm from the moisture.
Traildog, sorry to hear about the fire, that must have sucked!!
See ya, out to the garage I go.

My winch control is mounted on the front rack and I did not want anything that may hit the switch to energize the winch. I put the toggle switch in the pod left side in the black plastic facing the rear. Another reason is what if your control jams, then what, as you are franticcally looking for tools to disconnect it your winch is frying up. Last reason - If its in the kit its there for a reason, I don't like to out engineer the engineers, especially since I'm not one.
