Sorry this isn't four wheeler related, but I don't have many people to ask, but I'm restoring a 79's Trans Am, and I was wondering if anyone knew what parts are interchangable with what years, for my 79'
any help is much appreciated
I was wanting a Mopar
but settled for my smokey and the bandit car

I couldn't answer without knowing spicific part and year. Back when I had my Pontiacs ('70 GTO and '77 T/A), I had a subscription to High Performance Pontiac mag. It is a great resorce. Try searching for them on the net. I know they mag is still being published. I saw it last week at Wally World. If you need help finding it e-mail me clallen@ev1.net. I will find there address for ya.

Also maybe try Hemmings.com. If you want the ultimate, many years back, a bud bought a brand new '80 Trans Am w/ the WS6 handling package. Installed a LS6 454 crate motor and cleaned up on everyone. Great speed, and excellent handling.

If it is just like it's F-bodied brother, the Camaro, '78-'81 should all interchange. Also plenty of parts were the same between the 2 siblings (the Camaro and Firebird T/A).

I know what you mean 4 years ago I wanted a GTO more than anything. I settled for a '79 Z-28. 4 years later I am attached to the damn thing and beginning to build a show/drag car.

Thanks for the help guys
I must admit, I have always loved these cars after seeing smokey and the bandit.
My buddy has a 69's Roadrunner with a 440 Six pack
Now that's nice
But I might have a guy giving me a nice 79's t/a without the motor, so I might just stip that one down
Thanks again
I knew I could trust some of the guys in these forums for some useful info.

Polarisman3210 -
I did a complete restore on an 81 Bandit. All 79-81 body parts are interchangable. Only difference on the body is 2 different brand T-Tops and the bird on the gas tank door. List what you want to replace and I will see if I can help.

Jeff,
Thanks for the info, I appreciate that.
My T-Tops are ok
But I will need all new weatherstipping
the windshield is being replaced cause it leaks like a son of a gun.
Now I will need the entire interior, if I can't get anything from this other car.
The seats aren't original, so I will need those, and the dash is cracked.
Now the Heat and A/C are long gone, I can go without A/C, but not heat.
I'm gonna have my buddy rebuild the motor, I don't know about the tranny, feels like it might be trouble
But if you know where I could get some good interior crap that would be great, or the ext. door handles with the T/A in them.
Thanks Bro

What's in it for a motor? 400 or 403? If scoop says T/A 6.6 then 400 or scoop says 6.6 Liter 403 Olds. I hope you were lucky enough to get the 400 Pontiac. Trans auto or stick? Some items you need are cheap enough at the dealer. Door handles are purchased seperate from the inserts. Send me your email address and I will send you a wealth of information. To much to list here.

Jeff,
I still don't know what the motor is
The guy that rebuilt the motor for the people I bought it off of, put a new motor in, and rebuilt it
He said he does not know if it is a 403 or a 400 or 455
I know it's not a 455, but I need to do a little research and find out.
Now it is a 4sd auto
My email is metallica_bassman@yahoo.com
thanks for the help
and by the way, I paid $800 for the car, and it does drive and everything
