I was towing a small trailer with my Polaris 300 4x4 when the quad stopped running. Fuel is full oil is full. I am getting spark. I do not know alot about 2cycle engines but I now have the expensive polaris shop manual that has not helped me figure out why? Any suggestions or help will be appreciated

Without more details , it could be several different problems. You say you have spark, so you just need compression w/ a little gas and air. I would check the simple things first, like, fuel tank vent line , air filter and would change the spark plug{even if you are getting spark}. then i would make sure i was getting gas to the carb. and do a compression check. I'm just suggesting these things kinda blindly but maybe it will help you out. was the plug dry or saturated w'/ gas? and you can just pull the lid off of the gas tank to check for clogged vent lines, it could have just vapor locked .

I have replaced the sparkplug and the boot to the plug. I have had the cap to the tank off several times. Carb seams to be getting fuel I did open it up and used some carb cleaner on all the parts that was accesable. put it back together and still nothing. Last winter I ran out of 2cycle oil in the front tank and it would not start until I filled it up. I was wondering if this was a fluke or if it could have a "safety" switch. Before it died I was running at a slow speed and it started loosing power, I fluttered the accelerator and it came back a little then died. I have worked on a lot of machines even some 2cycle chainsaws but this one is baffling me. If it is a safety switch wouldn't it kill the spark? I have been trying to get this thing to run since July and now that winter is on the way I really need it back but really don't want to spend the $57 per hour at the dealership. I will stop off and pick up my compression tester from my friend and will post the reading. Thanks for taking time for my problem

Have you checked the in line fuel filter? Sure sounds like a lack of fuel to me. My 300 started running rough until I changed the filter. Did it backfire or just die?

It just faded out. Where is the inline fuel filter I thought it should have a filter but the lines are so hard to trace I have all the plastic off the 300 except the fenders. I bought the polaris shop manual which is great if you need to do some major work but it is vague on the little things.

Sitting on the seat, the fuel filter is on your left side, between the fuel shut off and the carb. Also, does it still turn over ok, just not start?

Thank you for the location I thought those little bitty white inlines was check valves. I am not used to such a small filter, would it hurt anything to put a larger barrel shaped fuel filter in place of the tiny one? what about the oil filter? I tinkered with the 300 again tonight I put the choke on key on run/kill swith to run and pulled the rope three or four times pulled the plug and it was wet. I could not catch the guy who borrowed my compression tester today so I put my thumb over the spark plug hole pulled the rope and it blew my thumb off the hole so although not scientific I have a decent amount of compression. I am wondering about timing. the service manual says there is a inspection hole to check the timing but as of yet I have not found it, I am assuming that it will be close to the recoil. This might make sense if I am getting spark and fuel but no fire. Is it common that the 300 could come out of time in such a way that it would seam to just loose power? Is the flywheel keyed or bolted? If keyed it may have sheared the key allowing it to come out of time. Full of question just have not figured out how to make it run? Thanks for helping
