I got mine, the dealer "told me at the time that I could do "bolt-on" mods... now that I want to, I called the warranty company, and read the contract completely. Bottum line, no mods at all. Now I'm trying to decide whether or not to sell it back and get the RCR kit I want. Good luck with your decision.

My dealer installed the RCR mods on mine because I did not have time to do it. They mentioned nothing about it voiding the warranty. But I read the warranty small print and it, clearly stated exactly what you said.

I bought the extended warranty along with a 4 year
service plan. Tune-ups, lubes, oil, etc. are all free. The original 90 day polaris warrenty is voided with add-ons, but my warrenty is thru the dealer itself. So if they do the add-ons, the warrenty is still in place. I have had no trouble with them at all on any repairs.

Huff, that sounds like a pretty sweat deal you have with your dealer. How much did that set you back?

I was all for the Polaris “Star” warranty until I read the whole thing. It’s not really a warranty but an insurance policy. And you all know how insurance companies love to pay claims. It may be an OK deal, I’m not saying it isn’t. But in reading the coverage I could see a lot of “gray areas” that would be left to the insurance company to decide if coverage was applicable. At the time I was buying two quads so the warranty ticket would have been close to a grand. I decided not to buy it.

Has anyone here actually had anything covered under the Star extended warranty? I’d like to know how well it worked out.

I got a 60 month warrenty from my dealer on my '00 Sportsman 500 and it only cost about $800. It was a little cash up front but, hey for no worries until 2004 I think it is worth it. It has a $25 deductable on repairs but that isn't much. I for one love peace of mind so if you do too, then go for the warrenty. I sure could have used a warrenty on my old Xplorer 300 but that is a whole other story.

Hey those warranties are great, Just make sure that you remove EVERY modification that you have put on if you ever take it to the dealer. I found out the hard way and so did my dealer. All his machines that he put lifts and big wheel kits on and sold, he found out from polaris that he voided the warranty on them. It cost me $600 to fix my 3 week old 00 SP500 because I forgot to take out a shock spacer that I did not purchase from polaris..

Hey, I never got offered an extended warranty on my new SP 500! Too late now though, after lifting it up, clutch mod, and new pipe, I don't think they would give me warranty anyway. I don't feel like ripping all that stuff off anyways, that would take forever. If I need to service it, I'll pay the labor....
