Need input on a 38MM Mikuni VM for Scram
#1
Im hoping a few of you guys are running or have ran a mikuni 38mm vm on your bike and can give me some pro's and cons, I am able to pick one up for a good price and would like the benefits of a larger carb if I dont have to ditch the stock airbox, I know the reed cage side will fit no problem but I am not sure about the airbox side? Also if anybody can just post how this carb worked out over the stocker I would really appreciate it

Todd 400,
Most of the people who've gone to larger carbs, usually go for either the TMX flatslides, or the PWK "D" slide. I prefer the 39mm Kehin PWK. Rick Ritter did some flow work on the carbs (38mm Mikuni TMX, 39mm Kehin PWK and a 38mm TMX Taperbored to 42 mm) way back when. His results are that the 39mm Kehin PWK flows the best of the three. Then came the taperbored 42mm and then the 38mmTMX. I'm inclined to agree that the 39mm Kehin flows better than the 38mm Mikuni. I've had both of them on my machine and the 38 always felt it needed more flow on the top end. There was a flat spot from about 3/4 throttle on up when you could feel the carb wasn't going to flow any more. I don't have this problem with the 39mm Kehin.
It's your money, but I'd go with the Kehin.
